Kauri Architects

Kauri Architects was founded by Tere Insley, New Zealand’s first Māori woman registered architect, following more than twenty years working at some of the country’s largest architectural practices, including Warren and Mahoney. With over forty years of experience across educational, commercial, civic, medical, and cultural buildings, Tere brings deep expertise in Māori design and construction, grounded in tikanga, whenua, and iwi and hapu narratives.

Notable projects include marae, wharenui restorations, and community facilities for Ngati Porou and Ngati Rarua. Supported by architectural technicians and engineers, Kauri Architects is committed to creating buildings that nurture wellbeing, connection, and cultural identity.
