Maunga Designs

Rob Camden of Maunga Designs, talks on one of his latest projects with pride and excitement.
Rob’s client’s dream was to build a unique home that is at one with it’s surroundings, utilising recycled materials
to retain a rural, unfettered charm.
This home is built high up in the hills at the back of Cambridge and enjoys enviable views of the sprawling and stunning countryside. At a quick glance you are reminded of a wonderful countryside painting. This home in many ways is its own work of art.
Rob Camden, and the owner of this fabulous home were in sync from the beginning. This was not your typical modern build, this was a passion project and steeped in traditional roots.

While the outside is deceptive, as many of the sheets of recycled corrugate date back up to a 100 years, giving this home a sense of having been on this site forever. The underneath shell is built to exacting modern standards and can sustain any sort of weather conditions.
Underneath the weathered corrugate features a two-tier cladding system that keeps the moisture out while retaining the authenticity of the corrugate facade. Waikato Build, placed the corrugate over a clever batten system, with a weathertight cladding underneath that perfectly blended old with new.

Macrocarpa Timber, locally milled in South Auckland gives this home, it’s beautiful rich feel, lustrous look inside and out. Macrocarpa was a great choice, as this distinctive timber accentuates the “Kiwi” vibe. The results speak for themselves, this is a very successful collaboration of talent and vision.
