Third Little Pig Homes

Warm, healthy, energy efficient homes is what Third Little Pig Homes is renowned for.

And the low long lines of this Mason & Wales designed home are clean and elegant – making it a prime candidate for a National Category win in the Registered Master Builders House of the Year in 2020.

The floating nature of the roof planes is accentuated through the extensive use of floor-to-ceiling glazing and minimalist detailing.

The long, horizontal layers of this home’s roofline mirror the ocean’s horizon – a theme that continues throughout the property.

The high degree of thermal efficiency from the ceiling and floor enables the home to have 86 per cent glazing, enhancing and preserving the spectacular coastal views while capturing the thermal gain from the inland, northerly aspect.

The bathroom is an airy and bright space that leads the eye towards the ocean, beyond the large stacked doors. Features such as the floor-to-ceiling glass divide and custom joinery enhance the simple lines of this room.

You’ll find 150sqm of decks and the main, north-facing deck is sheltered from the sea breeze and bathed in sun.

The custom-designed kitchen blends seamlessly with the open-plan dining/living area. With all appliances either integrated or out of sight, the onlooker is not distracted from the view of the beach or the inland hills.

Third Little Pig Owner Zac Williams is based in Dunedin and in 2019 he was also finalist in the awards for his own house build.

Just like the fable that he took his business name from, the same values the third pig uses to build strong houses is what Zac applies to his work.

Zac entered the House of the Year awards because he always finished a new home like it was going to be judged for a competition, a skill he learned during his apprenticeship.

Building his own home was a dream realised, and gave him the ‘bug’ to keep going again and again.
