PJ Builders owner Phillip Holland, has built this breath taking and captivating home for his parents in rural Horsham Downs. The property sprawls over 450sqm, having such a significant footprint makes for the ultimate in family living and recreation. Which was all part of the original brief and vision.
This incredibly well executed home has been awarded the Waikato regional Gold for Excellence in Workmanship, Creativity and Innovation in the Waikato Registered Master Builders House of the Year awards 2023 ($1.5 million – $2 million category).
Phillip and his team, have also won two additional Lifestyle awards on this home, a Kitchen Excellence award and Smart Home award. This home was constructed with a lot of heart and was built in conjunction with his mother Heather Holland and much missed late father Mark Holland.
When you talk with Phill you are made aware of the immense lengths that the people working on this project went to, to make sure that this project was finished in time for his father Mark to move into and enjoy his dream home, Mark enjoyed the home for 5 months before Mark passed away. Phillip cannot speak highly enough of what this dedication and effort meant to his parents. This build is a very special project to a lot of people in many ways a tribute to a great father and friend. You only need to look at the outstanding shed “mancave” on testosterone to get a sense of Mark who clearly loved life and made the most of it.
This is a property has crisp, timeless lines, that has endless aesthetic appeal. The overall look is perfectly balanced and proportioned. Designed for the occupants enjoyment of the wide open spaces. Pure heaven when it comes to relaxing with the extended family or entertaining friends.
We look at some of the main attributes of this project, the list of features is long, and encompassing a stunning landscaped in-ground swimming pool and two loggias that overlook it. Of these entertaining spaces one extends from the open-plan kitchen and living zone at the end of the north wing of the H-shaped house providing room for intimate gatherings. The other spills from the main-bedroom suite at the termination of the southern wing, a quite area to chill.
The Abodo timber cladding has given this home an upmarket, opulent finish. This home is a wonderful hybrid of modern and traditional with the incorporation of the rustic coloured original bricks, giving a “pop” of colour and contrast. The bricks are from an original homestead in Christchurch and shipped up to give that authentic country feel.
Upon entering the home you will be greeted by and an inspired, bespoke designed wine cellar encased behind glass, with the shelving consisting of a timber feature lining the back wall. As you continue your journey through this home, you realise there is so much to take in and discover. The communal shared spaces are vast and well appointed with raked ceilings, the beams having been imported from Belgium, giving you that sense of “ heritage and grandeur”.
The Palazzo designed kitchen is sensational and a work of art with its marbled kitchen island, breakfast bar and an entire corner that spills into the loggia and a linked patio. Barn-style sliding doors open to a lounge with a majestic brick fireplace, exposed rafters, these beams having been imported from Belgium, giving you that sense of “ heritage and grandeur”. Tongue-and-groove walls and an overall rustic and homely feel. As well as the foyer and wine cellar, the link between wings has the office and a bedroom with a secret door built into a wooden feature wall. The second wing has three bedrooms, two of which have ensuites, a bathroom, separate laundry and double garage with internal access.
