Impactful Presence

Beeson Brothers

This architectural home in the Te Aroha village was designed around maximising the views of the mountain and surrounding farmland.

A Beeson Brothers project, this was the client’s second home built by the company, as they move on from dairy farming, and become more connected with the town.

The 260sqm home also took out the $750,000-$1 million category and a Gold award at the Waikato Registered Master Builder of the Year competition.

A bold Western Red cedar wall with a random profile greets you inside the front entrance of this superbly built home.

The outside cladding also features vertical cedar boards teamed with horizontal Stria, and judges were impressed by genuinely striking mixture of materials in this three bedroom home.

This Western Red Cedar was used in many places – including behind the fireplace and also in the bathrooms – with every piece of timber picked by hand.

Co-owner Dan Beeson said all of the cedar was colour matched exactly to ensure a seamless flow throughout the house.

Even the kitchen features cedar panelling in the centre of the roof and lined with LED lights, matching the bottom edge of the front entrance wall.

The Caesarstone benchtop also makes a strong statement in the kitchen, while the rural views of the surrounding landscape straight out through the window is a welcome distraction.

Large floor-to-ceiling windows and doors 8.5 metres wide by 2.5 metres high open up this house to the elements, so that it’s hard to tell where the inside ends and the outside entertaining area begins.

This was their third Category win in the House of the Year awards, along with their Gold medal, with an increasing level of expertise shown in their projects as they have progressed over the years.
