Specialists in architectural building and multiple award winners, when Auckland–based Lewis Build won the contract for this contemporary Takapuna build it was a match
made in heaven. Designed by Mercer and Mercer Architects to the nth degree, it was up to Ben Lewis and his team at Lewis Build to bring their vision to life, and the end result is a very special property that more than meets the brief for a busy family of five.
“The project was a knock down new build,” explains Ben, “on a site that had been in the family for around 50 years. It came with a lot of history, and a home that had been renovated by my client’s parents’ multiple times. The family had outgrown the space and wanted to start afresh, and Adam Mercer came on board to take care of the architectural design and interior package. The original garage was retained, and a two–level, unabashedly modern family home built by Lewis Build to occupy the substantial site.
The lower level of the home is almost completely devoted to the family’s triplets, with three bedrooms, two ensuites and a rumpus room serving as the ultimate kid’s zone. On the upper level is the primary suite with ensuite and walk in robe, plus an office and the open plan living heart of the home. “This all flows out to the huge, covered deck with retractable awning,” explains Ben, with the carefully planned landscaping from Hood Landscapes and sizeable pool as the perfect backdrop. “The architects had done the most incredible job, and then it was up to us to bring the beautiful home to life,” says Ben, whose says his favourite element of the build was the aforementioned alfresco living space with skylights and benchtop flowing out via bifold windows to create the dream outdoor breakfast bar. “The hardwood, painted slats work as a great privacy screen while also looking fantastic, and the Vitex decking was the icing on the cake.”
Ben and his team also work closely with Mastercraft Kitchens, who were responsible for creating the stunning contemporary kitchen design. It’s a sizeable, sleek space that will definitely be well–used, with summer’s spent entertaining a given. Ben and his team and renowned for their work building award–winning custom homes and taking a truly bespoke approach. “We don’t work with developers and draw on some incredible sub–contractors like Tindalls Electric, Blueline Plumbing and JB Interiors, who helped bring this project together.”
