Bryce and Alannah Cowley decided to build themselves a new home in Morrinsville and showcase their construction company at the same time.
BDC Homes new showhome in the town’s latest subdivision is a gorgeous mixture of modern meets industrial, and recently the public got to see just what this building company can do.
Hosting a ‘pop-up’ showhome before they moved their family into their new abode, the open days attracted around 200 people, and Alannah said many loved what they saw.
“People were really impressed with the workmanship and finish. The feedback was just incredible,” she said.
This 279sqm home in a residential lifestyle block has views towards Mt Te Aroha and has been built as two separate wings to accommodate their young family.
A powder room for guests and an office were both additions to the original building plan, such is the luxury of being able to create as you go, when you’re building for yourself.
“The first thing you notice when you walk inside is the sense of peace and ambience the home creates.”
There is ample storage throughout, and this was high priority for the couple. However, they made a last minute decision to change out the extra linen cupboard for an office instead.
Covid-19 and the disrupted global supply chain also gave the couple an opportunity to try out some new materials, such as the Accoya they used on the outside gables.
Extra cedar was also purchased for the front entrance ceiling to match the covered outdoor area and deck, and for the cladding on both sides they have used a reverse-run multi rib product.
A 2.7m-high scissor truss raking ceiling in the living area adds to the sense of space inside, and burnished concrete floors gives the home that polished high-spec finish.
The kitchen is a real talking point in itself with integrated appliances and a hidden scullery that blends in with the lines of
the doors.
“Nobody knew it was there,” Alannah said. “We’re quite fussy people and we wanted it to be shut off to create that clean, seamless look.”
The bathrooms are just exquisite with their use of designer tiles – penny rounds are used in the main bathroom and under the gorgeous deep bath. The ensuite features textured tiles that create an illusion – all supplied by Tiles on Devon.
Soft pastel shades in the children’s bedrooms highlight the V-Groove feature walls, and cedar has been used again in the master bedroom to continue that slight touch of rustic throughout.
This is BDC Homes first showhome since the company first started in 2017, and is still available to view by appointment only.
“Alannah said she just loves the design of her new home and the layout works really well. She particularly loves the living and entertaining areas and the two large stacker doors that open out onto an extensive decking area that wraps right around the house.”
Based in the centre of the Matamata-Piako district, BDC Homes is marketing itself as one of the area’s top, quality construction firms.
Bryce has been in the industry for more than 15 years, working for companies on complex new home builds including waterfront projects.
The company specialises in medium to high end new builds and alterations. Bryce also has a passion for home renovations and the functional creativity required to transform a space.
“Tiny homes is another passion. Fast becoming the new way forward for people seeking an affordable yet quality living solution, these transportable homes come with all the functionality of a standard house, but on a much smaller scale.”
Our Compact Homes are fully customisable – all that’s required is the official drawing of any customisations – you just have to supply the land.
