Classic Good Looks

PJ Builders

PJ Builders loved their new holiday home in Whitianga before they were permanently based there, and so did all of their friends and family.

Owner Phill Holland said they initially built it as a showhome/holiday home, and was a great way of promoting the superb workmanship of the company.

Everything about this four-bedroom house says quality, from the raised ceilings in the living spaces, to the covered outdoor area, which is joined by corner stacker doors with recessed sills.

Siutated in a new subdivision in Powhiri Place, vertical Abodo planks have been used for both the external cladding, in front of the television and on the kitchen roof – set off by negative detail.

Light pours into this Coromandel Peninsula house through wide windows and doors, with special clerestory windows at the gable ends. A pop up ceiling in the media room has also made use of the smaller timber pieces, lined around the bottom of the roof to give it quite a creative and artistic edge.

A retractable roof louvre system in the outside dining area allows for entertainment all year round.  Black exterior window shutters further complements the roof louvres around the house, and the overall layout works to ensure plenty of natural light in every room.

The bathrooms are another talking point, with its industrial-looking wall tiles made to look rusted and rustic in one, and it’s almost a ‘trick of the eye’ in the ensuite where you walk into what looks like an underground vault room. High-raking ceilings in the user-friendly U-shaped kitchen and dining area gives that area a spacious feeling.

This gorgeous 256sqm house won PJ Builders a regional Gold award at the 2021 Registered Master Builder Awards, in the Auckland/Northland/Coromandel section, for the ‘Builders Own Home’ section.

PJ Builders is a leading and reputable building company based in Whitianga that services the Coromandel and Waikato regions. They have since also expanded their team into Hamilton and post-lockdown are looking forward to some more interesting builds in the wider Waikato area.
