A beachfront house in Pauanui featuring natural timbers and an underground wine cellar was enough for Holah Homes to take out a Supreme award in the Waikato Registered Master Builders House of the Year competition.
Back in 2018 it was a great year for Holah Homes, taking out a massive seven awards for the project, including Supreme House of the Year, a Gold Award and Category win for a New Home over $2 million.
Designed and built for laid-back living, the house puts a new spin on the archetypal beach house – the indoors and outdoors are as one. And with glazing on both sides of the open-plan living area, the sea view has not been sacrificed to provide shelter from the on-shore breeze.
But it was the extensive use of exposed natural timbers inside and out that made this house stand apart.
That and the use of floor-to-ceiling windows, which opens the house up to extensive sea views.
The house incorporates a wine cellar beneath the floor in the dining area, accessed by a spiral staircase that can be glimpsed through a glass hatch door.
