Beachside Showstopper

DEC Construction

Set just metres from the sand, where the scent of salt mingles with sea breezes, this elevated beachside residence by DEC Construction is the essence of contemporary coastal luxury. Designed in partnership with Ian Kohler Architect, the bespoke home captures panoramic sea views and the relaxed elegance of its setting—just moments from boutique shopping and fine eateries, yet entirely private in feel.

Crafted for a discerning client, the home is both grounded and globally refined. From the rich, textured Hermpac timber—treated with a Japanese-inspired burned finish by Blackwoods—to the responsive Vergola louvre system, it’s a showcase of timeless materials, curated form, and seamless function.

Spread over two levels, the architecture defines zones for living, retreat, and entertaining. On both floors,
glassed-in outdoor spaces offer year-round shelter while maintaining connection to the sea and sky.

These protected areas—framed with frameless glazing and operable louvres—create effortless transitions between indoors and out.
“Everything in this house is considered,” says Darren Ettrick, director of DEC Construction. “It’s not just about luxury—it’s about ease and attention to detail.”
The exterior flows with the coastal terrain, framing ocean views from nearly every room. The façade layers Nu-Wall aluminium and charred vertical timber cladding from Hermpac, giving the home texture and depth that shifts with the light.

Designed by Ian Kohler, the home embraces understated luxury. “The materials, the layout, the light—all of it is designed to bring calm and connection,” he says.
Wide, light-filled hallways, clerestory glazing, and consistent finishes create a sense of cohesion and warmth throughout. Bedrooms are positioned for privacy and natural light, while
built-in joinery and recessed lighting add to the home’s subtle elegance.

DEC Construction managed the high level of architectural complexity with professional assurance, drawing on long-standing relationships with trusted suppliers. From charred cedar cladding to Vergola systems and detailed finishes, every decision reflects craftsmanship and care.

From the sculpted forms rising above the dunes to the protected terraces and restrained palette, this is a residence that speaks quietly of quality. Every space invites pause. Every detail is deliberate.

This is coastal living—crafted, curated, and confidently refined.
