Character Builders

This beautiful character-style home at Dyers Pass was built in 1914 but the Christchurch earthquake caused some damage to the property, and Character Builders came to the rescue.

We restored the house to what it was by removing features like ceiling roses, skirting boards and repairing the architrave, and then reinstalled them on completion. The house was fully decorated internally, and exterior repairs included re-roofing the existing house.

Due to the damage we had to rebuild the retaining wall and rebuild the double garage in such a way it fit in with the character home.

For over 20 years Character Builders and Character Homes has been building a reputation for renovating, repairing, building and checking homes in Canterbury.

Our teams are known for their skill and commitment to the details that ensure whatever the scale of project, it is completed to your satisfaction.

Hundreds of clients, many recommended from others, attest to their communication and management approach that gives them peace of mind and assurance throughout the process.

Having been a significant part of the home check rebuild and repair programme across Christchurch following the earthquakes, we are now more focused on renovations, and adding that extra value and space many are looking for in their existing home.

Size and scale are not important, as our team adapts and can work on any project to give you the end result you desire.

Guy Gillespie commenced his building operation in 1997, then soon after joined forces with a third generation building company, Lewthwaite & Son Builders, to form a longstanding relationship and  a building company that would stand the test of time.

Over the years our projects have ranged from the small ongoing maintenance and repair needs of home owners, to large scale additions and alterations, and to brand new homes.
