The Cooper residence designed by Cheshire Architects has a commanding hilltop position overlooking the magnificent Bay of Islands. The Landing is a private 1000-acre farm with large areas of native bush that has been developed into an award-winning vineyard with luxury lodge accommodation set among the landscape.
The grounds around the Cooper Residence contain a number of large mature Pohutukawa trees that have been used to tie the building into the landscape. Large sweeping lawns and minimal planting have been adopted in some areas so not to detract from the stunning sea views, majestic Pohutukawa and unique architecture. Additional semi mature Pohutukawa trees were transplanted to provide a framework for the garden to be designed around.
The entrance into the residence complements that main gateway entrance by using local stone features rocks and native groundcovers. The gardens closer to the house are a mix of native and exotic shrubs that provide a lush green tapestry of foliage and white fragrant flowers. Clipped hedges have enabled the creation of raised vegetable gardens a home orchard and flower gardens. A sunken seating area has been positioned to take in the glorious view, the perfect spot for an evening wine watching the moonrise.
