Brogan Builders

There can’t be many construction companies around as green as Brogan Builders in Northland.

Passionate about staying at the forefront of modern building practices, the company was recognised internationally in 2021, winning the Green Home of the Year Awards in the USA.

Partnering with Formance – New Zealand leaders in SIP technology for housing insulation, Brogan Builders are experts at new homes, renovations and light commercial projects.

The ‘green’ award was for a tiny sustainable home with architectural features in Paihia, on a steep west facing slope overlooking the Kaipara Harbour.

The solar powered beauty has a north-facing verandah roof that brings in winter sunlight into the front room, and provides shade over the outdoor area in the heat of the day.

Inside a large loft space over top of the bedrooms provides additional living space, and many native materials are used, including a subfloor clad in 10mm kauri.

Green technologies and features include off-site prefabrication, structurally insulated panel walls, metal insulated panels in the roof, above code insulation for flooring, walls and ceiling.

And of course the house features energy efficient taps in the bathroom and kitchen, and runs energy efficient appliances.

We have even used breathable bio-paints for interior finishes, and the clients have installed a Tiger worm composting system.

A hot water heat pump also sucks heat out of the air and has a 45,000 litre capacity, for rainwater harvesting and firefighting storage.

In this Kaiwaka build featured, the owners have chosen a purple bathtub, and in the hallway there is also a wasabi green door, with every room offering something a bit different, including stunning feature walls.

Brogan Builders Ltd has been building in the Otamatea, Langs Beach and Mangawhai area under the management of Grant Eager for over 30 years, and have pretty much built it all.
